Edmond Sun military columnist Terry May died Saturday at age 58 in Oklahoma City. May, who was diagnosed with leukemia in early September, wrote the twice-monthly column “Patriots in Profile” since July 2001 for The Edmond Sun. The retired Army officer suspended writing his column last fall after his diagnosis. May had been involved in a comprehensive treatment plan at Mercy Hospital.

“The Sun is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Terry May,” said Managing Editor Rob Collins. “Terry had a sincere passion for sharing and honoring the military experiences of Edmond veterans. He will be missed.”

In a farewell column published Oct. 5, 2003, in The Edmond Sun, May described the distinct pleasure he experienced writing the “Patriots in Profile” column.

“The veterans I have met and the unique stories of service to country they have shared with me over the span of writing 58 columns have never ceased to inspire and amaze me,” May wrote. “We are truly blessed to have these outstanding patriots in our community.”
May was a former assistant vice president for academic affairs at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edmond Kiwanis Club or the Vivian Baptist Church HC63, Box 113, Eufaula, OK 74432.
